Simonaseuli

Red grape of Imereti

Simonaseuli is a local red grape of Imereti with saturated colour and pleasant acidity. It gives aromatic reds with a berry profile, suitable for both dry and light semi-sweet styles.

The variety is little known outside its home region and belongs to those autochthons preserved through family winemaking.

The revival of Imeretian reds has renewed interest in grapes like Simonaseuli, which broaden the palette of west-Georgian wine beyond Ojaleshi and Dzelshavi.
