Paneshi

White grape of Adjara & Guria

Paneshi is a white grape of the humid subtropical south-west (Adjara, Guria), adapted to heavy rainfall and to traditional tree training. It is one of the few surviving Adjaran varieties.

It gives fresh whites with good acidity and delicate floral-fruity aromatics; in qvevri, pale amber wines. It often goes into local field blends of the coastal zone.

The revival of Adjaran winemaking has brought Paneshi renewed interest: it matters for preserving the biodiversity of the Georgian vine in the far west.
