Jani

Red grape of western Georgia

Jani

Jani is a red grape of western Georgia with deep colour and high acidity. It is made into both rich dark reds and light rosés.

Its aromatics are dark and red berries, pomegranate, sometimes a spicy note. The lively acidity makes Jani a good food grape and a useful blending partner.

It is one of the local varieties that artisan winemakers are bringing back from semi-obscurity as western winemaking revives.
