Otskhanuri Sapere

Tannic red of Imereti

Otskhanuri Sapere

Otskhanuri Sapere is a red grape of Imereti with high tannin and acidity, giving austere, structured wines capable of very long ageing. It is named after the village of Otskhana.

Young, the wines are dense and tannic, but with years they open to notes of dark berries, spice and dried fruit. It is reckoned among the best Imeretian reds for cellaring.

Like Saperavi it has coloured juice, but is stylistically more «wild» and mineral.
