Mukuzani

Dry red, Kakheti

Mukuzani

Mukuzani is Georgia's best-known dry red from Saperavi, from the eponymous micro-zone in Kakheti. It is considered a «reserve» style: appellation rules require at least three years of oak ageing.

Ageing tames Saperavi's powerful tannin and adds notes of tobacco, leather and spice to the dark berries. Mukuzani is a dense, structured wine for the table and for long keeping.

The appellation took shape as early as the late 19th century; today it is the calling card of dry Kakhetian red.
