Red semi-sweet, Kakheti

Kindzmarauli is a red semi-sweet wine from Saperavi grown in the Kvareli micro-zone on the left bank of the Alazani. It is one of the best-known Georgian wines and a protected designation of origin.
Unlike the Racha wines, here the sugar and deep colour come from the hot Alazani valley and the teinturier Saperavi. The wine is dark garnet, with notes of black cherry and currant, velvety and moderately sweet.
As with Khvanchkara, the market is full of «semi-sweet Saperavi» with no right to the Kindzmarauli name; the genuine article comes only from the Kvareli zone.
