Chkhaveri

Rosé grape of Guria & Adjara

Chkhaveri

Chkhaveri is a pink-berried grape of the humid subtropical west (Guria, Adjara), traditionally trained high up trees (maghlari). It ripens very late, sometimes into December.

It gives pale-pink and «amber-rosé» wines of low alcohol, light, with delicate aromas of peach, quince and honey, often with natural semi-sweetness. It is one of the most graceful Georgian varieties.

Chkhaveri is a rarity tied to the vanishing tree-training practice; its revival feeds interest in small terroirs.
