Chinuri

White grape of Kartli

Chinuri

Chinuri is the main white grape of central Georgia (Kartli), with high acidity and a fresh, slightly astringent character. It is often blended with Goruli Mtsvane.

Chinuri makes light dry wines and — importantly for Kartli — sparkling wines: its high acidity suits the traditional method well. In qvevri the grape gives structured amber wines.

The name is sometimes linked to the word for «genuine, pure»; Chinuri conveys the terroir of cool Kartli well.
