Barbale

Natural-wine maker, Berdia Berdiashvili

Barbale

Barbale is a small natural winery in Bolnisi (Kvemo Kartli), founded by the oenologist Berdia Berdiashvili. It is named after Barbale, an ancient Georgian sun goddess.

They make organic, low-intervention wines from local varieties of Kartli and Kakheti. The core is the rare reds Shavkapito and Tavkveri, alongside other indigenous grapes.

Bolnisi is one of Georgia's reviving wine districts, and Barbale has become one of its notable small producers.
