Khinkali in Pasanauri, on the Georgian Military Road
Pasanauri sits on the Georgian Military Road where the White and the Black Aragvi meet, and is held to be the birthplace of khinkali: people have been stopping here for them on the way to Stepantsminda for decades. The family restaurant Qavtaradzeebi keeps that reputation and works from nine in the morning until midnight.
The khinkali are the mountain kind, with chopped meat and broth inside; alongside them people take mtsvadi and the highland guda cheese. It is a roadside place without refinements, and that is exactly what one stops for.
