Ojaleshi

Red grape of Samegrelo

Ojaleshi

Ojaleshi is a late-ripening red grape of western Georgia; its name is linked to the «tree» training method (maghlari), the vine trained up tree trunks. It is picked very late, sometimes in November.

Ojaleshi is used mainly for red semi-sweet wines with vivid berry aromatics, soft tannin and natural sweetness. The finest come from Salkhino in Samegrelo.

Long a rarity, the grape is now being revived and made into both semi-sweet and dry wines.
