Racha red — the base of Khvanchkara

Aleksandrouli is a noble red grape of mountainous Racha. Together with Mujuretuli it forms the blend of the famous Khvanchkara — a red semi-sweet wine.
The variety is low-yielding and demanding, grown on Racha's steep slopes; hence the rarity and high price of Racha wines. It gives fine, aromatic wines with soft tannin and berry sweetness.
Racha's cool mountain climate and distinctive soils give Aleksandrouli the balance of sugar and acidity on which the Khvanchkara style depends.
