Iago's Wine

Natural-wine maker, Iago Bitarishvili

Iago's Wine is a small winery in the village of Chardakhi in Kartli, run since 2003 by Iago Bitarishvili. In 2005 he became the first producer in Georgia to gain organic certification for both the vineyard and the cellar.

He has about two hectares of old vines of a single variety: Chinuri; the wine is made in qvevri on wild yeasts, without industrial additives. Some of the qvevri in his marani are very old.

Iago is one of the driving forces behind the revival of qvevri wine and a co-founder of Tbilisi's New Wine Festival. His wines are exported to Europe and the USA.
