«Kakheti» is a regional protected designation for traditional amber wine made in the Kakhetian qvevri style: with long fermentation and ageing on the skins, pips and stems.

It is an umbrella designation covering the classic method rather than a single village; the grapes are above all Rkatsiteli and Mtsvane.

This very style — «Kakhetian» amber wine — became the calling card of Georgian qvevri winemaking worldwide.
