Tbilvino grew out of a large Soviet-era Tbilisi wine factory that in its best years bottled tens of millions of bottles. After the collapse of the USSR production almost stopped.

In 1999 the enterprise was relaunched by the Margvelashvili brothers, turning it from a symbol of Soviet scale into a modern company focused on quality and export.

Tbilvino's story illustrates well the path of Georgian wine from a Soviet giant to a market brand.
