Around 1709 the first Georgian printing press opens in Tbilisi; a code of laws is compiled.

Vakhtang VI (ruled Kartli 1716–1724) was an enlightener on the throne, a reformer and scholar.
He established the first Georgian printing press in Tbilisi (1709), which printed «The Knight in the Panther's Skin», compiled a law code and set up a scholarly commission on the Kartlis Tskhovreba.
Unable to defend his kingdom from Iran and Turkey, Vakhtang emigrated to Russia with a large retinue, founding the Georgian colony in Moscow.
