Tamar's reign (1184–1213) marks the peak of the Georgian Golden Age.

In 1184 Queen Tamar came to the throne (r. until 1213), and under her the kingdom of Georgia reached the peak of its power and cultural flowering.
She was styled «king of kings and queens»; the realm stretched from the Black Sea to the Caspian, neighbours paid tribute, and art and letters flourished.
It was under Tamar that Rustaveli's «The Knight in the Panther's Skin» was created; the queen herself is canonised by the Georgian Church.
