The Ruisi-Urbnisi church council (around 1103), convened by David IV, carried out a reform of the Georgian Church.
It removed unworthy prelates, tightened discipline and subordinated the church to royal power, uniting secular and spiritual governance.
The reform made the church a pillar of the centralised state, one of the foundations of the golden age.
