Nato Vachnadze

Star of Georgian silent cinema

1904–1953

Nato Vachnadze was the first star of Georgian cinema and one of its symbols in the silent era of the 1920s. Her face was known across the whole country.

She was married to the director Nikoloz Shengelaia; their sons Eldar and Giorgi Shengelaia became celebrated film directors. Nato Vachnadze died in a plane crash in 1953.
