Otar Iosseliani (1934–2023) was a Georgian film director, one of the most singular auteurs of European cinema. He began in Tbilisi and from the 1980s worked in France.

His films are unhurried, ironic, almost without plot in the usual sense, full of observation of the flow of life, wine and human frailty. «Once There Was a Singing Blackbird» and «Falling Leaves» became classics of Georgian cinema; «Favourites of the Moon» won a prize at Venice.
