Writer and enlightener
1851–1938

Ekaterine Gabashvili was a writer of the national-revival generation, a fellow campaigner of Ilia Chavchavadze and Akaki Tsereteli. She wrote about the lives of ordinary people and did much for women's education in Georgia.
Her best-known story is «Magdana's Donkey», about a poor widow and her children. It later became the film «Magdana's Donkey» (1955), which won the short-film Palme d'Or at Cannes.
