The Kobidze marani, the rare varieties of Guria

The Kobidze marani in the Gurian village of Erketi, in the valley of the Supsa, is run by Davit and Tariel Kobidze. They began bottling in 2014 and make up to five thousand bottles a year.

The estate works without pesticides or chemistry, on organic fertilisers. What matters here are the rare Gurian varieties: chkhaveri, aladasturi, jani-skhilatubani, sakmiela, kamuri, tsolikouri. In 2015 Davit planted a collection vineyard of almost extinct Gurian vines, some twenty old varieties.

The range holds chkhaveri in amber and in rosé, jani-skhilatubani, aladasturi, a white of sakmiela and kamuri, and tsolikouri. The wines travel to international natural wine fairs and to foreign critics.
