Pharasmanes II the Valiant was a king of Iberia in the 2nd century AD, under whom the kingdom of Kartli grew markedly in strength and independence from Rome.
He is reported to have waged successful wars against his neighbours, and his standing with Rome was such that the emperor Antoninus Pius received the Iberian king in Rome and set up an equestrian statue to him.
Pharasmanes' reign shows that ancient Iberia was no backwater but an actor in its own right at the meeting of the Roman and Parthian worlds.
