Dmanisi is a palaeoanthropological site in southern Georgia with the earliest Homo remains outside Africa (c. 1.8 Mya).
In Georgia the two hominins are nicknamed Zezva and Mzia; the finds are attributed to Homo erectus (georgicus).
The near-toothless skull of the «Dmanisi old man» (D3444) may be the earliest evidence of social care.
The remains belong to at least five individuals; alongside them were found Oldowan-type stone tools and animal bones.
Excavations are led by the Georgian National Museum under David Lordkipanidze; Dmanisi is on UNESCO's tentative World Heritage list.
