The State Art Museum of Adjara

The museum opened in December 1998 in Batumi, in a building designed in 1949 by the architect Kakha Javakhishvili. The building itself is listed as cultural heritage, and its relief frieze was made by the sculptor Tamar Abakelia in 1951-1952.

The collection covers Georgian art from the late nineteenth century to the present. It includes works by Niko Pirosmani, Gigo Gabashvili, David Kakabadze, Lado Gudiashvili and Elene Akhvlediani.

In all the holdings comprise more than five hundred works of Georgian, Soviet, Russian and Western European art of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The museum regularly stages retrospectives, musical evenings and classes for children and adults.
