Iveria, the newspaper of Ilia Chavchavadze (1877–1906)

Iveria was a journal, later a newspaper, founded by Ilia Chavchavadze in 1877; the chief organ of the Georgian national movement of the late 19th century. Shown is the first issue of 1877.

Iveria was founded in 1877 by Ilia Chavchavadze; it gathered around itself the best of Georgian letters and journalism.

The paper defended the Georgian language, school and culture, printed literature and translations, and set the national agenda.

Iveria appeared until 1906 and remains a symbol of the age of national revival.
