In 888 Adarnase II Bagrationi restored the royal title in Georgia, abolished three centuries earlier, taking the title «king of the Georgians».
This was an important symbolic step: after a long interregnum, Georgian statehood once again had a lawful monarch.
The Bagrationis secured the crown that their dynasty would wear for almost a thousand years, until the 19th century.
