Pharnavaz I

First king of Kartli (Iberia)

According to the Kartlis Tskhovreba, Pharnavaz united the lands of Kartli after Alexander's era, made Mtskheta his capital and set up the division into eristavates.

Tradition credits him with raising the idol of Armazi and, in one version, creating the Georgian script; Georgian statehood is counted from him.
