Akaki Tsereteli was the most beloved Georgian poet of the 19th century and Ilia Chavchavadze's ally in the national revival; his verses turned into songs in his own lifetime.

The words of «Suliko» (1895), written by Akaki, became perhaps the most recognisable Georgian song in the world.
